A man who can't die must learn the secret of death from the woman he loves when she is reborn in the mortal world.

Readers love Realms Unreel because

==> ONE It's the perfect escape.

"Beautifully crafted and well-plotted. This is a polished, clean-cut, imaginative, and exciting work."

"Auden's descriptions of the worlds she creates are so vivid and mesmerizing, and the characters so enigmatic and full."

"The perfect escape from this reality -- a universe unto itself."

==> TWO It's a page-turner.

"I found myself completely sucked in as the plot transitioned seamlessly from character background to futuristic world-building to action. The story is absolutely gripping, with well-balanced exposition and intriguing characters."

"While reading it, I got chills more than once, and my heart raced all the way through the final chapter."

"Just finished after reading pretty much non-stop for a day. It was wonderful. So excited for the sequel!"

==> THREE It's a genre-bender.

"I am not typically a reader of science fiction, but this book hooked me from the start. Allusions to the global Occupy movement, the Anonymous hacker collective, and fundamentalist religion are interwoven with themes mined from a global history of literature and mythology."

"I'd especially recommend this to anyone who doesn't always enjoy fantasy, because it combines so many different subjects into one work, including science and technology, adventure, and mystery. Couldn't speak more highly of this book."

"We could use more books like Snow Crash and more authors developing the cyberpunk sci-fi crossed with fantasy crossed with ancient religions genre. And I say that with only the slightest hint of irony."

==> PLOT SYNOPSIS

Dom Artifex watched the woman he loved give up her undying body in exchange for passage into a land beyond Death. Dom was afraid to follow her, and he despairs of ever seeing her again.

Dom discovers that a strange connection remains between him and his lost love, binding him to each of her reincarnations. Her latest reincarnation is Emmie Bridges, a girl born in the Silicon Valley of the near future.

Emmie grows up to become a designer of virtual worlds in a society shaped by pervasive virtual reality technology and the global alternet information network. When Emmie's beloved mentor is assassinated, leaving Emmie in possession of a mysterious manuscript that Dom believes contains the secret of death, Dom makes contact with Emmie in an effort to obtain both her trust and the manuscript.

Despite Dom's efforts to protect Emmie, the assassin is now looking for her and will stop at nothing to keep the manuscript secret. Emmie must retrace the steps of her past reincarnations through worlds both real and virtual to uncover the secret Dom seeks.

Realms Unreel Audrey Auden Books

Wow. This book is just awesome! I haven’t really ready any cyberpunk before, only watched some cyberpunk anime. I don’t really see how this fits into cyberpunk in that sense, but as I haven’t read cyberpunk, I will take the author’s word that this is. Needless to say, whatever you want to call it, this book was amazing! I loved the world-building both within the book, and the work that the author does. The blending of technology and old religions was refreshingly thrilling. The author’s descriptions of technology were phenomenal. I was surprised that this book was only 356 pages, because it seemed so much more than that. The meaty details, the three different storylines going at the same time, and the delicious development of the plots left me feeling like I had read several books in the series.
The only bad thing that I would mention, is that because of all the different elements and the way that the story progressed, I really felt that there were two different books here. And the story still isn’t finished yet. There will be a sequel. This book took me a month to read, which is very uncommon. There are a couple of major climactic points where I think she could have ended book 1, and then created book two. The second part of the book had a very different feel than the first, which also would have been easier to handle if she had made it two books.

But it was a great read. I will definitely read it again when the next book comes out. Yeah, the next book is going on my TBR as well.

Realms Unreel Audrey Auden Books Reviews

This book got better and more intriguing as I read. I was very happy I wasn't able to guess the ending, (as happens often with fiction.) I cared about what happened to Emmie and Dom both, and I was rooting for them. This book made me smile, laugh a couple of times, and cry once. It also made me think, about our real world, technology and the future, which in Realms Unreel is extremely well thought out and plausible. I hope there is a sequel because I wanna know what happens next.
This book went into so many rambling directions that the reader is often left dazed and confused...led down a long winding road only to find that it is a dead end. Character relationships are not fully formed and therefore feel contrived. The relationship between Emma and Ollie was never explored in any meaningful way, he is never really fleshed out as a character. The whole concept of parallel universe traveling is interesting but is a convoluted concept in this story. It doesn't help that the story is weighed down by unnecessary technical jargon. All in all I would not recommend this book.
Make no mistake; I think the book was great. Once I got through the first couple chapters of jerkiness that I expect from a debut author of any caliber, I was hooked. Auden hit her stride very quickly and this is a polished, clean cut, imaginative, and exciting work. The fast-paced plot, self-aware tone, and shameless virtual reality descriptions more than made up for the lacking character depth in the main characters. The main character had a virtually flawless childhood, and as a young adult she's unperturbed in everything she does. It makes it hard to relate and care for her. The other main character's slightly greater depth is largely attributable to his unrequited love, which is hardly an original concept nor is it explored from an original perspective. Nevertheless, the book is in no way disappointing and well worth the short of time you'll need to joyfully burn through it.

I realize the reference has already been made, but this book is clearly heavily influenced by Snow Crash by the duly glorified Neal Stephenson, and that's a good thing. We could use more books like Snow Crash and more authors developing the cyberpunk sci-fi crossed with fantasy crossed with ancient religions genre. And I say that with only the slightest hint of irony.
I inhaled this book! I simply could not stop turning pages. The characterization was flawless. The world building was flawless. The technology was described in such a way as to leave you amazed by it but not confused at all. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a skillfully plotted story and a well written book. Especially will appeal to fans of fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction. But really it's such a well written book that most people will love it.
I, too, found the advertising comparing this to Stephenson's Snow Crash to be tempting... and purchased the paperback edition. I wasn't disappointed in the book and I'll look forward to Book 2 - Bonds Endure, but it really didn't come very close to the wild roller coaster ride that Snow Crash was. Certainly an enjoyable read. Another reviewer remarked on the strange use of "OMG!" in the book and I have to agree - it was out of place and threw a large rock into the smooth flow of the generally well-written prose every time it popped up.
First of all, Realms Unreel is totally genre-bending. It is a sci-fi story with elements of the supernatural and fantasy.

Initially, the story might feel like a drag for those who are expecting a totally science fiction book. But things get really interesting around 8% or so. The book is quite long, and I think it could have been shorter. Despite that, none of the scenes felt excruciatingly long or forced in.

I love the world Audrey Auden has created. I hope we will see technology described in the book implemented ubiquitously into consumer gadgets someday soon. The supernatural and "afterlife" aspects of the story genuinely made me question my own world and existence, kind of like the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series.

Realms Unreel was a page-turner and a work of amazing quality. I am now impatiently waiting for the sequel, Bonds Endure.
